KING CHARLES SET RECORD--Charlie Stella of Brooklyn, New York, displays the brilliant form that enabled him to consume six pounds, one ounce of spagetti to win the inaugural "Grandstand Gourmet" Spaghetti-Eating Contest, part of the Columbus Night festivities, on Monday, October 10, at Yonkers Raceway. Stella, a 27-year-old window-washer by trade, defeated Eric Blake of Yonkers by just an ounce to win the battle, with all proceeds of the $5 entry fees going to the Boys' Towns of Italy charities. Stella's performance is believed to be the most spaghetti eaten by one individual during that time limit, and will be submitted to the Guiness Book of World Records for consideration. Stella is flanked by Miss Columbus '83 Maria Talone, who served as one of the judges, and John Cirillo, Yonkers publicity director, who was the master of ceremonies.
